A word from our Town Chief, Stubborn Buffalo
Autumn is here now and we are all busy bringing in the rest of our harvest and
putting our gardens to bed.  If anyone is interested in having any of the following
fruit and or nut trees/shrubs please email me at leiber4u@yahoo.com
We have plenty to share:  Blue Plum, Filbert, Hazelnut, English Walnut, and Peach, as
well as Raspberry canes and strawberry plants.
Welcome to our town.  We are all learning together about the old ways as well as
the new.  It is quite an experience to see Elders and young folk alike come
together with a common goal in mind.  If you live in the Little Pool Town and have
things that you would like added to the page please contact us.  If you can make it
to our gatherings please come, you are all invited.  The only thing we ask that you
keep in mind is that during a  gathering there will be no alcohol or street drugs
allowed. I respectfully submit this to all my relations. Wado Troubled Waters  email

This month we are going to talk about wild edible
foods.  Simple plants that we see every day, but,
take for granted.  Let's start with the one everyone
knows.... Dandelions ( Taraxacum officinale ).
In the early spring the young green shoots are
fantastic in salad or eaten raw.  Later in the season
they take on a bitter taste and are better cooked.
Changing the water and cooking them a second time
takes away the bitterness. If you simmer the leaves
for about ten (10) minutes it makes a tea that is good
for colds.  Dandelions have a high content of
vitamin A. This excerpt was taken from a book called
The Edible Wild written by Berndt Berglund and
Clare E. Bolsby.  It is a wealth of information and I
suggest that plant lovers and gardeners read this
book.
There will be several work parties
in the coming months to prepare
for our annual gathering in June of
2010.  For times and the places
please contact Troubled Waters.
