Welcome to our town. We are all learning together about the old ways as well as the new. It is quite an experience to see Elders and young folk alike come together with a common goal in mind. If you live in the Little Pool Town and have things that you would like added to the page please contact us. If you can make it to our gatherings please come, you are all invited. The only thing we ask that you keep in mind is that during a gathering there will be no alcohol or street drugs allowed. I respectfully submit this to all my relations. This month we are going to talk about wild edible foods. Simple plants that we see every day, but, take for granted. Let's start with the one everyone knows.... Dandelions ( Taraxacum officinale ). In the early spring the young green shoots are fantastic in salad or eaten raw. Later in the season they take on a bitter taste and are better cooked. Changing the water and cooking them a second time takes away the bitterness. If you simmer the leaves for about ten (10) minutes it makes a tea that is good for colds. Dandelions have a high content of vitamin A. This excerpt was taken from a book called The Edible Wild written by Berndt Berglund and Clare E. Bolsby. It is a wealth of information and I suggest that plant lovers and gardeners read this book.

We will be calling on families in our town to respectfully ask if they will share their families stories about how their family came to the Pacific Northwest.
