NW Tsalagiyi Nvdagi
Texas Band Cherokee
We are not federally recognized yet and therefore are not affiliated with the United States
Bureau of Indian Affairs.  We are however in the process of seeking U. S. recognition.  We are
not part of the Oklahoma or North Carolina Cherokee Bands, but we are related by blood
kinship.

The Tsalagiyi Nvdagi, under the name of Texas Cherokee, signed a treaty with the Republic of
Texas on February 23, 1836.  Texas violated that treaty when they drove the Texas Cherokee
and their related bands from Texas by gun and knife on July 16, 1839, and Chief Diwali
(principal chief at that time and known to the whites as Bowles) was killed.  Those who
survived the massacre, either fled to other locations or hid in the deep forest of East Texas so
they would not suffer a similar fate.

We who have come together to reinstate our tribe are very proud people.  We will last as long
as there is a drop of Ani-Tsalagi blood left among us.
Below is a link to the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi Tribal
Home page.  Where you will find much
desired information about your heritage.
Many thanks to Clay Woman for allowing us
to link to her creation.

The above is an excerpt from the Tsalagiyi Nvdagi homepage.  We are of the
same blood as them, however we live in the great northwest.
We are presently trying to get Federal recognition from the U.S.
You can help by writing your local Senator as well as the President of the United
States.
